Unlike varnish, oil penetrates the wood instead of covering it. The floor stays alive: you feel the fibre, the grain, the natural depth of the oak.
The principle
A natural finish, locally repairable.
An impact, a mark, a more heavily used area: the oil can be locally re-applied, without going over the whole room. It is the most alive finish — and often the most elegant on oak and light woods.
